ACOUSTIC INSULATION

SLEEP PEACEFULLY IN THE CITY?

Noise in large cities is another form of pollution. Acoustic insulation is a factor of quality of life and comfort.

WHAT ELEMENTS MAKE A WINDOW ACOUSTIC?

01. PROFILE COMPOSITION MATERIAL:

Unlike aluminum, modified rigid PVC acts as a natural damper for sound waves, making it an ideal material for manufacturing acoustic doors and windows.

02. PROFILE AND OPENING HERMETICITY:

Since sound waves are transmitted through the air, an acoustic window must be highly impermeable. In a low-quality window, we can feel air (and consequently noise) filtering through the corners. In projects oriented towards acoustic insulation, Kömmerling always specifies pressure openings and never inline sliding ones. Kömmerling profiles are designed so that the frame-sash union forms a double acoustic barrier (double perimeter gasket system).

03. GLAZING

The thicker the glass, the greater the acoustic insulation. It's important to clarify that in double glazing, the function of the intermediate air chamber is primarily thermal and not acoustic. Laminated glasses are an excellent acoustic option and can also be part of double glazing.

With glass thickness being a relevant issue, Kömmerling profile systems are precisely prepared to accommodate large glazing thicknesses.

Despite the above, a relatively widespread conceptual error is thinking that thick glass or double glazing alone is sufficient. On the contrary, acoustic insulation is the result of combining all the elements described here.

THERMAL INSULATION

PLEASANT TEMPERATURE AND ENERGY SAVINGS

In the face of unavoidable climate change, temperatures are becoming increasingly extreme. How does installing thermal windows influence?

When the building is air-conditioned, whether it's air conditioning or heating, a thermally efficient window saves energy-electricity. In case of sudden discontinuation of air conditioning, a comfortable temperature is maintained for a longer time. Even in non-air-conditioned buildings, thermal windows contribute to a more pleasant temperature.

Energy-electric savings for air conditioning can reach up to 70% (Source: Spanish Ministry of Industry IDAE).

WHAT ELEMENTS MAKE A WINDOW THERMALLY EFFICIENT?

01. PROFILE COMPOSITION MATERIAL:

Unlike aluminum, which is a transmitting material, modified rigid PVC is a natural insulator especially suitable for manufacturing doors and windows.

02. PROFILE DESIGN

At Kömmerling, one of the most important design criteria is achieving high thermal insulation values, optimizing the structure of the profiles and incorporating a greater number of air chambers.

03. OPENING HERMETICITY

Once having insulating profiles, it's required that the door or window opening be hermetic (pressure system between frame and sash).

In projects oriented towards thermal insulation and energy savings, Kömmerling always specifies pressure openings and never inline sliding ones.

04. GLAZING

Insulating glass units (double glazing) are indicated for thermal insulation projects. In general and up to 16 mm, the thicker the intermediate chamber between glass and glass, the better the insulation. The different Kömmerling profile systems are designed precisely to accommodate large glazing thicknesses.

Despite the above, a relatively widespread conceptual error is thinking that double glazing alone is sufficient. On the contrary, optimal thermal insulation is the result of combining all the elements described here.

HOW IS THERMAL INSULATION MEASURED?

The unit of measurement is known as U-value and measures the temperature exchange that occurs between the exterior and interior of the window. The lower the U-value, the better the thermal insulation.

There is a U-value for profiles, for glazing, and for the complete window.

WATER AND WIND TIGHTNESS

A BARRIER AGAINST AIR, WATER, DUST, AND POLLUTION.

When we talk about tightness and wind resistance, there are 3 fundamental parameters that make the difference: Water tightness, Air permeability, Wind resistance.

PVC has demonstrated in numerous tests its quality compared to other materials (aluminum, wood, etc.), both for its level of impermeability to air, rain, and for its resistance to wind and loads.

PROTECT MY HOME FROM NATURE?

Year after year, meteorological phenomena hit our coasts causing severe damage. Designing a hurricane-proof door or window is a technical challenge and depends on combining several design criteria:

01. TYPE OF OPENING

In projects oriented towards tightness and wind resistance, Kömmerling always specifies pressure openings and never inline sliding ones. A pressure opening is one where the sash profile exerts pressure on the frame profile. The doors and windows section details the openings that are classified as pressure systems.

02. PROFILE JOINING BY THERMO-FUSION

Unlike aluminum profiles, PVC profiles are joined at the corners of a window through the thermo-fusion process. Therefore, any frame, initially formed by 4 profile sections, becomes a single piece that guarantees zero air, dust, or water filtration in the corners.

03. STEEL REINFORCEMENT

Kömmerling PVC profiles are designed to house galvanized steel reinforcement inside. The physical properties of a material like steel make the structural resistance of Kömmerling windows far superior to that of any aluminum or wooden window. The reinforcement is fundamental for hardware fixing, window fixing to the work, hinge fixing, and to support the weight of the glazing.

04. ANCHORING THE WINDOW TO THE WALLS

To properly fix the window to the walls, Kömmerling uses special self-tapping screws without plugs that go through the galvanized steel reinforcement of the frame.

From each of the window corners, there must be a fixing screw in both directions within the first 20 cm, and in the first line of the sea, the remaining distance between screws should not exceed 40 cm at most.

05. HARDWARE SYSTEM

A distinctive feature of Kömmerling windows is the frame-sash closing pressure that is transmitted perimetrally, by turning the handle, to several closing points (pin-striker union). The hardware is a vital factor of tightness. For optimal rigidity, all strikers are screwed directly to the galvanized steel reinforcement of the frame.

06. GASKET SYSTEM

The closing pressure provided by the hardware is complemented by a double perimeter gasket system. Kömmerling profiles are designed so that the frame-sash union forms a double tightness barrier thanks to the gaskets.

07. GLAZING

The wind load or speed that glazing resists is a function of the glass dimensions and its thickness. Consult specifications with your authorized Kömmerling representative. As additional protection for glazing, consider installing specialized blinds.

BEAUTY AND DESIGN

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WINDOWS

The excellent acceptance of Kömmerling doors and windows is due to their great adaptability to any architectural style from the most avant-garde design to the renovation of historic buildings. At Kömmerling, the word standard doesn't exist: windows are made to measure and the number of design variables is enormous.

01. COLOR AND TEXTURE

Color is present in everything: in the PVC profile, in the glass, in the handles, etc.

Regarding PVC profile, Kömmerling offers countless possibilities: mass colors, foiled colors with texture and wood-like grains.

02. GEOMETRIC SHAPE

Everything is possible: squares, rectangles, trapezoids, triangles, circles, semicircular curves, three-point curves, lowered arches, etc.

03. DIVISIONS

Design or modulate your doors and windows with any division: posts, transoms, overlaid muntins, etc.

04. PROFILE AESTHETICS

From profiles with a more traditional appearance (Eurodur, Dina, SF2) to the latest generation systems and avant-garde "look" (Eurofutur, Premiline, Glasswin).

05. FUNCTIONALITY

Depending on the architectural space, choose the type of opening that best suits your needs.

And the list of design possibilities doesn't end here. We recommend visiting the nearest Fentexhaus showroom to start designing your windows.

PROTECTION AGAINST THEFT

Protect your windows

Social insecurity is unfortunately a present phenomenon in Mexico and Latin America. If necessary, Kömmerling doors and windows are configured to offer high levels of security.

This is achieved through the integration of different technologies: Kömmerling PVC profiles with high impact resistance that are internally reinforced with steel throughout their perimeter, hardware systems with German technology under the concept of "multi-point locking", anti-theft glazing, interior beading, and specialized installation.

In Germany, the theft protection property of Kömmerling windows is endorsed by the "EF-2" seal from the Institut Für Fenstertechnik.

CORROSION RESISTANCE

Resistant Windows

Marine corrosion is one of the most frequent problems for windows located in coastal areas. Thanks to Kömmerling's proprietary modified rigid PVC formula (Kömalit Z®), windows resist corrosion, saltpeter, molds, and bacteria, guaranteeing a long useful life.

Regarding hardware, Kömmerling manufacturers use in their production process the most recognized German brands and technologies in the industry, either with standard corrosion resistance or with maximum corrosion resistance for coastal areas.

On the other hand, solar radiation is a factor that alters the white color of simple PVC, turning it yellowish. In the case of Kömmerling profiles, Kömalit Z is obtained after adding a series of stabilizers, modifiers, lubricants, and pigments to the PVC, a formulation that complies with the European standard UNE EN 12608 "Unplasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC-U) profiles for the fabrication of windows and doors. Classification, requirements and test methods."

FIRE RESISTANCE

Live Safely inside the house

Kömmerling's exclusive modified rigid PVC formula, Kömalit Z®, is classified as M1 (hardly flammable and self-extinguishing according to European standard UNE 23 727).

The self-extinguishing characteristic refers to the fact that, in the event of a fire, Kömalit Z® does not propagate combustion and extinguishes as soon as the heat source ceases.

Unlike wooden joinery, Kömmerling PVC doors and windows resist fire and their maintenance cost is minimal. On the Colors in mass and foiled page, you can observe the different options in wood imitations.
