YOUR WINDOW IN 7 STEPS

When designing a Kömmerling door or window, we find that the number of available features and options is very wide. The selection process can be complicated without specialized advice.

We present a quick guide with the basic steps and concepts:

Ornate entrance with large door and decorative columns
Modern multi-story residential building

STEP 1

DEFINE YOUR NEEDS

The ideal design starts by identifying the specific needs for each room or space. Establish case by case the desired level of comfort, acoustic insulation, thermal insulation, ventilation, security, functionality, airtightness, etc.

STEP 2: CHOOSE THE OPENING

There is a wide classification in terms of opening types:

These are indicated when airtightness, acoustic insulation, thermal insulation and energy savings are sought.

The mobile element called "sash" exerts closing pressure on the fixed element called "frame".

Within the pressure systems, there is in turn a wide variety of opening forms.

They are more used in Europe than in America.

There is a double airtightness barrier in the frame-sash union known as the double perimeter seal system.

STEP 3: CHOOSE THE PROFILE SYSTEM

The profile is the most important part of a door or window.

We call profile system the set of PVC profiles (frames, sashes, posts, etc.) generally of the same thickness, design and aesthetics used in the manufacture of a door or window.

The choice of profile system influences:

  • The level of acoustic insulation, thermal insulation, energy savings and security.
  • The appearance and aesthetics of the door or window.
  • The range of glazing thickness.
  • The maximum dimensions of the sashes.

STEP 5

CHOOSE THE GLAZING

Depending on your thermal insulation, acoustic insulation, security and solar control needs, your authorized Kömmerling representative can help you choose the best glazing.

INSULATING GLASS (DOUBLE GLAZING)

It is formed by 2 pieces of glass separated by an intermediate chamber of dehydrated and static air whose main function is to increase thermal insulation. In general, the thicker the intermediate chamber, the better the thermal insulation. On the other hand, the thicker the glass, the better the acoustic insulation. Therefore, insulating (double) glass is also a good acoustic alternative, not because of the intermediate air chamber but because of the sum of the thicknesses of the crystals. The combination of two different thicknesses is the most effective way to optimize insulation.

STEP 6

KNOW THE HARDWARE.

Kömmerling doors and windows are manufactured only with European-made hardware from renowned German brands.

The hardware is chosen depending on the corrosion and salinity conditions of the installation site and the desired level of security against theft.

STEP 7

CHOOSE YOUR ACCESSORIES.

Add even more design, functionality and added value to your Kömmerling windows.

MOSQUITO NETS

There are various mosquito net solutions depending on the type of opening or functionality of your doors and windows.
